Asahi UK is taking significant strides toward sustainability by committing to zero tailpipe emissions for all deliveries, starting with the introduction of a Volvo FE Electric 4×2 rigid truck for its London operations. This silent and emission-free vehicle will facilitate the delivery of beer from Fuller’s, a 174-year-old brewery.
The 18-tonne Volvo electric truck will operate from the historic Griffin Brewery in Chiswick, West London, which first opened its doors in 1845. The inaugural journey will deliver Fuller’s London Pride cask beer to the Churchill Arms pub in Kensington, marking a new chapter in the brewery’s delivery methods.
Following its debut, the electric truck will continue to distribute some of Asahi’s most popular brands, including Fuller’s ales, Meantime craft beer, Cornish Orchards cider, Asahi Super Dry, and Peroni Nastro Azzurro, to various pubs across London.
Sam Goodenough, Sustainability Manager at Asahi UK, commented on the initiative, stating, “Our FE Electric will be one of the first of its kind to enter London, demonstrating the potential of electric drays to create quieter streets, support the city’s clean air initiatives, and build a more sustainable future for the communities we serve.”
This move aligns with London’s increasing adoption of electric vehicles, driven by the city’s low-emission zones that have been in effect since 2023. While Asahi’s target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 may not be seen as overly ambitious, it certainly positions the company as a forward-thinking leader in sustainable practices. The introduction of this electric truck is likely to be welcomed by residents, who will benefit from the quieter deliveries it offers.
