Amsterdam Schiphol Airport has placed an order for more than 50 electric buses from Munich-based manufacturer MAN, set to replace the current fleet of aging electric buses by April 2025.
The new buses will continue the airport’s commitment to electric transport, which has been in place for a decade, facilitating passenger movement between aircraft and the terminal.
The upcoming MAN electric buses will feature improved passenger comfort and reliability, according to Sybren Hahn, Executive Director of Infrastructure at Schiphol. The airport anticipates that bus transport will remain essential due to increasing aircraft sizes and ongoing renovations.
The new buses will offer enhanced boarding efficiency, with three doors and a lower floor to expedite passenger flow. The interior layout has been designed to accommodate more standing passengers, allowing for quicker transfers between terminals and planes.
Tillo Smets, Sales Manager for Public Transport at MAN Nederland, expressed pride in expanding cooperation with Schiphol, highlighting the contribution to the airport’s zero-emission goals. This order follows another recent contract with Munich Airport, where MAN will supply 37 electric buses.
