Allego, the Dutch EV charging company, has made its mark in the UK with the opening of its first fast-charging hub at a sports venue. The charging hub, located at MK Dons Stadium in Milton Keynes, provides three 300kW chargers, equating to six ultra-rapid charge points. While this may seem relatively few, given the stadium can cater for over 30,000 football fans, Allego’s Managing Director in the UK, Paz Sharma, sees it as a significant step forward in the company’s plans to expand its ultra-fast EV charging network in the country.
“Working with Stadium MK in delivering this initiative is a fundamental first step forward in our plans to expand our ultra-fast EV-charging network in the UK,” said Sharma.
Although Allego is not new to the UK, the company’s presence in the Isles is still relatively small. In the last 18 months, Allego installed 128 new public charge points in London, 48 in the London Borough of Hackney in 2022, and a further 80 in the neighboring Borough of Newham in 2021. However, the company has ambitious plans to expand its network across the UK and Ireland, working with private landowners and local authorities to invest in ultra-fast EV charging infrastructure.

“Allego is set to open new ultra-fast EV charging hubs in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland later this year,” said Sharma.
On the continent, Allego is active in 16 European countries, with a network comprising nearly 40,000 public charge points. The company’s UK expansion is part of its broader strategy to provide a seamless charging experience for EV drivers across Europe.
As EV adoption rates continue to rise, the availability of reliable and convenient charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. Allego’s investment in ultra-fast EV charging hubs in the UK will undoubtedly be welcomed by EV drivers, particularly those who frequently travel long distances.
“Allego’s expansion in the UK is great news for the EV market. As EV adoption rates continue to soar, the availability of high-speed charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. Allego’s investment in ultra-fast EV charging hubs across the UK will provide EV drivers with the peace of mind they need to travel long distances with confidence,” said Alex Bamberg, CEO of Amber Energy.

Allego’s investment in the UK is a positive sign for the country’s EV market, providing EV drivers with the infrastructure they need to travel with confidence. With more ultra-fast charging hubs set to open later this year, Allego is well on its way to becoming a major player in the UK’s EV charging landscape.
