Spanish energy company Acciona Energia has announced agreements with various retailers to install 1,000 new EV charging points at restaurants, shopping centers, and hotels in Spain by next year. The expansion will include a mix of AC and DC charging options with outputs between 22 and 180 kW, with more than 400 of the new charging points offering between 100 and 120 kW.
The company has not disclosed details about the hardware suppliers or the investment volume. The new charging points will be strategically located in areas with high traffic density and will be operational by next year. Although the exact timeline within the year 2025 is not specified in the press release.
Acciona Energia’s network will expand to over 4,000 charging points on urban and interurban roads with the addition of these new points. The company has secured agreements with public bodies such as the city councils of Collado-Villalba (Madrid), Campdevánol (Gerona), and Onda (Castellón), as well as private companies like Ikea and Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, to install hundreds of charging points at their locations. Acciona Energia also aims to build the largest public charging station in Madrid, although details are not provided.
By expanding its charging infrastructure, Acciona Energia aims to drive forward the decarbonization of transport and promote electromobility. The company has set a target to build a public network totaling 25,000 charging points by 2030, which will include its own charging stations as well as those managed for third parties.
