Toyota has just revealed its newest addition to the electric vehicle market—the Urban Cruiser SUV. Positioned between the Yaris Cross and C-HR in the brand’s European lineup, this compact SUV shares many design elements with its Suzuki e-Vitara counterpart, albeit with a few signature Toyota touches.
Available in both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations, the Urban Cruiser promises a spacious and efficient ride, thanks to its dedicated electric platform and impressive range of features.
At 4,285 mm (168.7 inches) in length, the Toyota Urban Cruiser features design cues inspired by last year’s Urban SUV Concept, yet adapted for the production model with a more consumer-friendly approach. The sharp-edged styling incorporates Toyota’s recognizable hammerhead headlights and unique rear tail light graphics, distinguishing it from the Suzuki e-Vitara.
While the overall silhouette remains similar, subtle refinements make it distinctly Toyota. Inside, the cabin offers a high-tech experience, highlighted by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen. The modern interior also boasts a floating center console and glossy black accents, with options like a JBL audio system and a fixed sunroof.
One of the standout features of the Urban Cruiser is its spacious interior, which Toyota claims rivals that of midsize SUVs, thanks to the extra 140 mm (5.5 inches) in wheelbase compared to the Yaris Cross. The 2,700 mm (106.3 inches) wheelbase ensures ample legroom for passengers, while the rear seats offer both sliding and reclining functions to maximize comfort.
As for performance, the Urban Cruiser offers a choice of two battery options. The FWD variants come with either a 142 hp (106 kW / 144 PS) or 172 hp (128 kW / 174 PS) electric motor, while the AWD version boasts a 182 hp (135 kW / 184 PS) dual-motor configuration. Battery choices include a 49 kWh option for FWD models, and a 61 kWh unit available for both FWD and AWD.
Though Toyota has yet to reveal the full WLTP range of the Urban Cruiser, the model includes energy-saving features like a heat pump for the air conditioning and a battery pre-heating function for cold climates. The Urban Cruiser will make its official debut at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show in January, with European availability expected in 2025.
Pricing details will be announced closer to the launch date. As part of its commitment to sustainability, Toyota aims to achieve zero CO2 emissions in Europe by 2035 and will have 15 zero-emission vehicles, including six battery electric models, in its lineup by 2026.
