Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), owned by Tata Motors Limited, has confirmed that its new Jaguar Electrified Architecture (JEA) platform will remain exclusive to Jaguar models and be produced solely in the UK. The move is part of JLR’s strategy to elevate the Jaguar brand to a premium level, focusing on high-quality craftsmanship and exclusivity.
“This platform is dedicated for Jaguar,” Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar, said in an interview with Autocar India. He also ruled out manufacturing JEA platform-based models outside the UK, including in China, a significant market for luxury electric vehicles. Glover likened the approach to Rolls-Royce’s commitment to British roots, emphasizing Jaguar’s focus on upscale identity.
The company plans to launch three Jaguar EVs built on the JEA platform, starting with a four-door GT model. Previewed at the 2024 Miami Art Week through the ‘Type 00’ concept, the GT is expected to deliver up to 1,000 horsepower and offer a maximum WLTP range of 770 km. JLR claims the model can add 321 km of range in just 15 minutes of charging. Production of the four-door GT will begin at JLR’s Solihull plant, with sales targeted for late 2026.
JLR initially set the base price of the electric four-door GT at £100,000 when announced in April 2023. However, Glover recently suggested the figure has risen to £120,000. Despite the higher price point, JLR clarified that it does not intend to compete with ultra-luxury brands like Bentley and Rolls-Royce, aiming instead to position Jaguar as a premium yet accessible electric vehicle marque.
