The California Highway Patrol recently tested a customized version of Lucid’s Air EV, dubbed the “Lucid Pursuit,” as part of its efforts to enhance its fleet with high-performance electric vehicles. Known for its efficiency and rapid acceleration, the Lucid Air is positioned as a prime candidate for law enforcement use with its notable range and powerful capabilities.

The Lucid Air, specifically the 2025 Air Pure, holds the title of “the World’s most efficient car,” boasting a record efficiency rating of 5 miles per kWh and the highest EPA MPGe rating among electric vehicles, at 146 MPGe. Lucid’s electric sedan surpasses even the Toyota Prius Hybrid and Honda Civic in fuel efficiency.

In addition to its range, the Lucid Air stands out for its impressive acceleration. The Air Sapphire model reaches 0-60 mph in a mere 1.89 seconds, faster than performance benchmarks like the Porsche 918 Spyder and Bugatti Bolide. This capability makes the Air a compelling choice for high-speed pursuits, and a specially outfitted “Lucid Pursuit” version was recently equipped with police features, including a light bar, dash lights, brush guards, and custom wheels.

Beyond police testing, Lucid has been building momentum in the EV market, posting record deliveries for three consecutive quarters. The automaker is set to begin production of its first electric SUV, the Gravity, later this year. Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson described the Gravity as “a landmark product,” expected to achieve up to a 440-mile range and priced just below $80,000.

Looking ahead, Lucid aims to introduce a midsize electric SUV priced under $50,000 and a midsize electric sedan by late 2026, targeting a competitive segment alongside Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y.
