Suzuki has revealed its first all-electric vehicle, the e Vitara, marking its official entry into the electric SUV market. Launched in Europe, this global electric model is the latest result of an expanded collaboration between Suzuki and Toyota to meet rising demand in the EV sector. The two automakers recently extended their alliance, with Suzuki set to supply Toyota with the new SUV.

Built on a new electric platform co-developed by Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu, the e Vitara is designed as a pure battery electric vehicle (BEV) and draws inspiration from the eVX Concept that Suzuki introduced at the Auto Expo in India earlier this year.

This electric SUV, which Suzuki describes as embodying “advanced technology and strength,” is based on the “Emotional Versatile Cruiser” concept, offering a compact yet spacious design.

The e Vitara is built on Suzuki’s dedicated “HEARTECT-e” platform, designed specifically for EVs, which integrates a new eAxle, lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, and an AWD “ALLGRIP-e” system for off-road capability.

The platform enhances passenger space while aiming to provide a nimble and sharp driving experience. Battery options include 49 kWh and 61 kWh packs, although the official driving range remains unconfirmed. The concept version previously suggested a maximum range of 342 miles (550 km).

At dimensions of 4,275 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, the e Vitara is comparable in size to other compact electric SUVs, such as Kia’s EV3.

Production will commence at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant in India in Spring 2025, with sales expected in Europe, India, and Japan by Summer 2025.
