Milence has opened its fourth electric truck charging hub in Europe, located in Varberg, Sweden, along the TEN-T Scandinavia-Mediterranean corridor. This marks the first of ten hubs the company is developing in the country. The Varberg hub serves as a key stop for hauliers and heavy-duty vehicle drivers traveling between Gothenburg and Malmö, providing charging solutions along a critical logistics route.
The new hub currently features four 400-kW chargers, each with two charging points. Milence plans to expand the facility by 2025, adding more CCS and Megawatt Charging System (MCS) chargers. The company successfully tested MCS in July, aiming to significantly boost charging speeds for heavy commercial vehicles. “With MCS, which is still being standardised, Milence wants to significantly increase charging capacity and enable heavy commercial vehicles to be charged even faster and more reliably,” Milence stated.
Customers can access the hub using a variety of charging cards, thanks to Milence’s agreements with multiple e-Mobility Service Providers (eMSPs). Payments can also be made directly using credit cards or the Milence app. The default tariff is approximately 40 cents per kilowatt-hour, excluding VAT.
“Sweden is one of the leading countries in Europe when it comes to sustainability and energy transition, where electric road transport is a reality today,” said Milence CEO Anja van Niersen. “With ten charging hubs under development and three to open by the end of the year, this is one of our key markets and fleet operators can now start using the Milence network.” The two additional Swedish hubs are set to open in Åstorp and Ödeshög by the end of the year.
Founded in 2022 with 500 million euros from Daimler Truck, Traton Group, and Volvo Group, Milence is rapidly expanding its network. The company plans to open 70 truck charging parks across Europe by the end of 2025, with recent additions in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France, and two more hubs expected in Germany later this year.
