Stellantis is recalling approximately 194,000 plug-in hybrid Jeep SUVs over concerns of potential fire risks, following reports of 13 fires.
The recall affects certain 2020 to 2024 Jeep Wrangler and 2022 to 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid models, with the issue linked to a battery component defect.
The automaker reported that fires occurred when the vehicles were parked and turned off, estimating that around 5% of the affected models may have the defect.
Owners have been advised to park their vehicles outside and away from other vehicles or structures until repairs can be made. The company noted that the risk is lower when the vehicle’s battery charge level is depleted.
The recall includes 154,000 vehicles in the United States, 14,000 in Canada, 700 in Mexico, and nearly 26,000 outside North America.
Stellantis initiated the recall after a review of customer data led to an internal investigation, and it expects to provide a solution soon.
