Portuguese charging station manufacturer i-charging has introduced its new megawatt charging system, i-light, at the IAA trade fair in Hanover. The system is designed to meet the growing demand for fast, efficient charging in the heavy-duty transport sector, offering a total output of up to 1.5 megawatts.

The i-light system consists of a central power unit and multiple satellites, each with a single charging point. The power unit’s output can be dynamically distributed among up to six satellites, allowing for charging capacities ranging from 250 kW to 1.5 MW in 250 kW increments.

Both MCS (Megawatt Charging System) and CCS (Combined Charging System) connections are supported, with the company claiming an efficiency rate of 98 to 99 percent. Each satellite is equipped with a 37-inch display for user interaction.

Pedro Moreira da Silva, CEO of i-charging, emphasized the significance of this development for the future of heavy-duty transport, stating, “Our goal is to provide a solution that addresses the critical need for faster, more efficient charging while supporting the broader transition to sustainable energy.”

Certification for the i-light system is expected by 2025, following the publication of MCS standards by ISO, IEC, and SAE. While the MCS version is scheduled for release in 2025, the CCS version will be available by the end of 2024.
