Volkswagen Introduces New ID.3 GTX Range as “Sporty” EVs

Volkswagen has launched its new ID.3 GTX range, positioning it as the sportiest electric vehicle (EV) series in its lineup. The top-end Performance variant boasts a 240 kilowatt (kW) output and accelerates from 0 to approximately 60 miles per hour (mph) in under six seconds. It supports DC fast charging up to 185 kW and is now available for pre-order in Europe alongside the standard GTX model.

Volkswagen compares the new GTX Performance to the Golf GTI Clubsport, but in an electric form, featuring the most powerful iteration of the ID.3’s powertrain to date.

The Performance model closely resembles the original ID.3 but features a distinctive diamond-patterned air intake. Both the GTX and GTX Performance have been redesigned for enhanced agility, incorporating a “sporty low centre of gravity” by placing the battery centrally within the floor.

The GTX and GTX Performance are equipped with a 79kWh battery, capable of delivering up to approximately 373 miles (601 kilometers) of WLTP range in the Performance variant. Additionally, these are the first ID.3 models to surpass a top speed of 124 mph (200 km/h). Both variants provide 545 newton-meters (Nm) of torque, with the standard GTX variant delivering a 210 kW output. They are also capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 26 minutes with an appropriate charger.

Standard features across both models include non-Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Dynamic Road Sign Display, and autonomous emergency braking. The Performance variant also comes with a GPT-based IDA voice assistant as standard, while online Connected Travel Assist is offered as an optional extra.
