Ford’s Electric Vehicles Division Sees 61% Q2 Sales Growth

Ford’s electric vehicle division, Model e, has reported robust growth in the second quarter, achieving a remarkable 61 percent increase in sales compared to the previous year. Year-to-date figures reveal a substantial 72 percent rise, underscoring Ford’s momentum in the evolving EV landscape.

Despite Tesla’s dominance in U.S. EV sales, Ford maintains a leading position among traditional automakers, driven by the popularity of its Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning models. New customers represent a significant portion of sales, with 54 percent of Mustang Mach-E and 64 percent of F-150 Lightning buyers new to the Ford brand.

Ford’s electric crossover, the Mustang Mach-E, has seen impressive sales growth, with a 46 percent increase over the past year and a 58 percent rise in the first half of 2024. The Mach-E ranks as the fifth best-selling EV in the U.S. for the year, gaining traction in the competitive EV crossover segment.

Ford’s electric pickup, the F-150 Lightning, continues to dominate the electric truck market, surpassing rivals like the Rivian R1T and Tesla Cybertruck. Sales of the F-150 Lightning reached 15,645 units by June 2024, with a notable 77 percent increase in Q2 compared to the previous year.

Ford’s electric van, the E-Transit, remains a top performer in its category, capturing significant market share with 6,301 units sold. Sales have surged by 96 percent, driven by repeat customers attracted to the lower operating costs and environmental benefits of electric vehicles.

Ford’s strong performance in the EV sector reflects its strategic focus on expanding its electric vehicle lineup and capturing consumer interest with compelling models like the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning.
