Nio announced today that its upgraded virtual voice assistant, NOMI GPT, has surpassed 10 million user interactions since its launch on April 12, the electric vehicle (EV) maker revealed on social media platforms.
NOMI GPT, incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) technology, has been actively engaged in tasks such as trip planning, role-playing, and text creation during its interactions with users.

According to Nio, 8,747 individuals have engaged with NOMI GPT for more than 30 minutes, with the most frequent user interacting with the voice assistant over 200 times in a single day.
Originally introduced in 2017 alongside Nio’s first production car, the ES8, NOMI (short for Know Me) has evolved from basic functions like music playback and navigation to more sophisticated capabilities underpinned by AI advancements.

During an earnings call on March 5, Nio’s founder and CEO, William Li, highlighted plans to enhance NOMI with AI large language models, leveraging the computing power of Nio vehicles to enhance product competitiveness.
The rollout of NOMI GPT on April 12 marked a significant upgrade, specifically available for vehicles equipped with the Banyan system, part of Nio’s NT 2.0-based models. Older NT 1.0-based models utilize the Aspen system.

GPT, short for Generative Pre-trained Transformer, underscores NOMI GPT’s ability to predict and generate text based on large-scale language modeling, enhancing its functionality and user interaction capabilities.
“Nio has embraced the advancements in AI large language models to imbue NOMI with deeper emotional expression and enhanced intelligence,” Nio stated previously, highlighting the strategic importance of NOMI GPT in its product ecosystem.
