In a significant milestone for BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA), the joint venture between BMW AG and Brilliance China Automotive Holdings Ltd., the 6 millionth car rolled off the production line at the Plant Dadong in China. The BMW i5, a fully electric model in Frozen Pure Grey, marked this achievement, highlighting the plant network’s dynamism and competitiveness in Shenyang.
Milan NedeljkoviÄ, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production, praised the achievement, stating, “The 6 millionth car is a symbol of the outstanding achievements here in Shenyang.” He emphasized the focus on competitiveness and innovativeness across BMW’s global plant network.
The production pace has been remarkable, with the last million cars being produced in just 15 months. The five-million mark was reached in February of the previous year, showcasing the efficiency and productivity of the Shenyang plants.
Plant Shenyang’s commitment to quality was evident in the rigorous quality checks undergone by the milestone vehicle. These checks, including the use of Automatic Surface Inspection in the paint shop, ensure that each car meets BMW’s high standards. Artificial intelligence is employed to identify and mark any imperfections in the paintwork, which are then rectified precisely.
Moreover, preparations are underway at Shenyang for the production of the Neue Klasse. The BMW Group is investing significantly in erecting five high-voltage battery assembly facilities on three continents, including one in Shenyang. This investment of 10 billion RMB (1.29 billion euros) will enable the production of sixth-generation high-voltage batteries. The installation of plant and equipment began in March, with the first pre-series batteries expected by the end of the year.
The Neue Klasse is set to launch worldwide in 2025, with China producing its first models from 2026. All three BBA plants – Dadong, Tiexi, and Lydia – are capable of manufacturing fully electric cars, showcasing BMW’s commitment to electrification.
