Biliti Electric, a Californian-based electric tuk-tuk manufacturer, has commenced construction on a new production facility in Hyderabad, India. The new plant, slated to produce battery packs alongside the company’s signature three-wheeled electric vehicles, marks a significant step in Biliti Electric’s global expansion strategy.

With a designed capacity of 2,000 vehicles per month, the new facility covers approximately 13 acres. Media reports indicate that Biliti has invested over Rs 400 crore (approximately 4 billion rupees or 48.33 million US dollars) in this state-of-the-art facility, which is expected to generate around 10,000 new job opportunities.

Raja Gayam, CEO at Biliti Electric, highlighted the company’s commitment to innovation in urban mobility beyond vehicle manufacturing. “Biliti Electric specializes in creating a scalable battery swapping network for urban mobility and energy storage,” he stated during the groundbreaking ceremony. “The company pioneers the development and manufacturing of advanced modular battery technology suitable for various vehicle form factors. Its primary application has been in the realm of three-wheelers for last-mile delivery.”

All of Biliti Electric’s three-wheelers are tailored for delivery services and come equipped with swappable batteries. While the company introduced a fuel-cell trike in 2022, it is no longer featured on its official website.

Founded in 2021, Biliti Electric currently operates assembly plants in the USA, Portugal, and Kenya. The company boasts a global footprint, claiming deployments in approximately 15 countries across five continents, partnering with major corporations such as Amazon, Ikea, and Flipkart (Walmart).
