Bharat Petroleum and Tata Motors Plan 7,000 EV Charging Stations in India

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at deploying 7,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across India by the coming year. The strategic collaboration extends beyond infrastructure development to include the introduction of a co-branded RFID card payment system, enhancing convenience for customers and fostering increased EV adoption.

With Bharat Petroleum operating a network of over 21,000 fuel stations throughout India, this ambitious expansion initiative signifies a substantial upgrade for approximately one-third of their stations by the targeted deadline.

The partnership also encompasses the creation of more than 90 fast-charging highway corridors, strategically positioned to ensure the availability of a fast-charging station every 100 kilometres on each side of the highway, covering an extensive distance of over 30,000 kilometres nationwide.

Addressing the pressing need for EV adoption to combat urban air quality challenges, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, emphasized the critical role of widespread and reliable charging infrastructure as a catalyst for accelerating EV adoption in India.

This collaboration aligns with Bharat Petroleum’s recent commitment to integrate charging infrastructure at its existing gas stations, reflecting a proactive approach to support the growing demand for electric mobility in the country.
