Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer, has recently reached a notable production milestone, having manufactured over 5 million cars across its global network of Gigafactories. This achievement highlights the company’s significant growth in production capacity since its inception in 2008.
Tesla announced this milestone through its communication channel, Tesla on X, during a Saturday update. Unlike previous announcements, specific details such as the production location, the model of the milestone car, and images of factory workers were not provided. Instead, Tesla expressed gratitude to its community of owners for their support in reaching this milestone.

Tesla began as a relatively small automaker, introducing its first product, the high-end Roadster, in 2008. Over time, the company expanded its product lineup to include luxury models like the Model S and Model X, albeit with limited production volumes. The introduction of more affordable models, the Model 3 in 2017 and the Model Y in 2020, significantly accelerated production.
To provide context, it took 12 years to produce the first million vehicles, with the one-millionth car, a red Model Y, coming off the Fremont production lines in March 2020. Subsequently, production speed increased, with the second million reached in 15 months, the third million in 10 months, the fourth million in seven months, and the recent milestone of five million cars achieved in just over six months.

Based on this trend, it is estimated that Tesla could reach the six-millionth vehicle mark by January or February of the following year.
The rapid achievement of these milestones is credited to the dedication of Tesla’s workforce across its four assembly plants, located in Fremont, Giga Texas, Giga Berlin, and Giga Shanghai.
In a separate achievement, Tesla also celebrated the installation of its 50,000th Supercharger stall, located in Roseville, California.
