Galp, a leading Portuguese energy company, has joined forces with Powerdot, a Portuguese charging infrastructure specialist, to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Spain. The collaboration aims to build 155 High-Power Charging (HPC) points with up to 200 kW capacity each, distributed across 33 locations along Spanish motorways and busy roads.
The regions benefiting from this initiative include Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Asturias, La Rioja, Aragon, Galicia, Valencia, Catalonia, and Andalusia. With nearly five charging points per planned location, this project seeks to offer efficient and widespread EV charging access to motorists.

While specific details regarding the roll-out and timetable were not disclosed, media reports indicate that the initial charging stations are already operational in Seville, Castellón, and Alicante. Galp has set ambitious goals for EV infrastructure development, planning to install 10,000 charging points in both Spain and Portugal by 2025. The European Investment Bank (EIB) is supporting Galp’s endeavor with a loan of 41.5 million euros, primarily focused on the roll-out of 5,500 charging points by 2025, with the condition that 55 percent of these points be built in less developed regions.
Powerdot, the charging infrastructure operator partnering with Galp, has also received significant attention for its advancements in the EV charging sector. In addition to the Spanish expansion with Galp, Powerdot has secured a major order from Poland. The renowned Polish supermarket chain, Biedronka, has commissioned Powerdot to equip 600 parking spaces with fast charging stations by the end of 2024. The project involves installing 150 fast chargers, each with a capacity of 120 kW and offering three charging points (CCS, CHAdeMO, and Type 2), with 450 more chargers scheduled for installation next year. The first stations are expected to be inaugurated in Warsaw in the coming weeks.
