French energy company Engie Group has unveiled its new subsidiary, Engie Vianeo, which is dedicated to providing charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs). With a focus on decarbonizing mobility, Engie Vianeo plans to deploy 12,000 EV charge points across France by 2025.
Starting this June, EV drivers in France will become acquainted with the Engie Vianeo brand as the company initiates the rollout of its services, beginning with an initial network of 1,000 charge points nationwide. These charge points are already operational and encompass over 800 locations on major motorway networks such as APRR, SANEF, Vinci Autoroutes, and ESSO (Certas Energy France). Furthermore, Engie Vianeo services will be available at 35 Indigo car parks in 20 French towns and cities, as well as at roadside charge points in Eurométropole de Strasbourg, Communauté d’Agglomération d’Epinal, and Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence. Additionally, the company has partnered with numerous hotels that feature Vianeo charging points in their car parks.
The establishment of this expansive network and the collaborative efforts were built upon the existing agreements Engie announced in September 2022.
Looking ahead, Engie Vianeo has set ambitious goals to further expand its charging infrastructure. By 2025, the company aims to make an additional 11,000 electric charge points accessible to all drivers in France.
Frank Lacroix, the Executive Vice President of Energy Solutions at Engie Group, emphasized the company’s dedication to decarbonizing mobility and highlighted Engie’s expertise in financing, designing, constructing, and operating infrastructure. He also noted that Engie caters to various sectors, including businesses such as hotels and rest stops, as well as cities. For instance, the company has signed contracts with Strasbourg and the Métropole d’Aix-Marseille-Provence to provide charging infrastructure in the coming years.
These advancements are consolidated under the Engie Vianeo brand. Customers can access the services through a dedicated website and a mobile app, both of which feature an interactive map displaying all Engie Vianeo stations and real-time availability of charge points across France. Engie also offers a smart route planner customized to a driver’s vehicle type and the remaining battery power.
When locating charging stations, customers have three payment options: they can use the mobile app by scanning the charging station’s QR code, make a contactless payment with a bank card, or utilize the “Ma Carte de Recharge” charging card provided by Engie. Pricing includes €0.57 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for 300 kW charges at motorway service stations and €0.69 per kWh at partner Esso pit stops operated by CERTAS Energy France.
Engie emphasizes that the electricity supplied at these charging stations is 100% derived from renewable energy sources such as hydro, wind, and solar.
With Engie Vianeo’s comprehensive charging network and user-friendly services, the company is poised to contribute significantly to the growing adoption of electric vehicles in France, supporting the nation’s sustainable transportation goals.
