Opel has recently unveiled the facelifted version of its popular subcompact hatchback, the Corsa, in Europe. The updated model, known as the 2024 Opel Corsa Electric, includes significant enhancements both inside and out, and features an all-electric variant.
One of the most notable changes is the adoption of Opel’s latest design language, which gives the Corsa Electric a resemblance to the smaller Astra Electric model. The front end now showcases Opel’s signature Vizor brand face, seamlessly integrating the grille, LED headlights, and Opel Blitz emblem into a single element. The LED headlights and front bumper have also been redesigned, contributing to a more dynamic and sporty appearance.
The rear of the Corsa Electric sees a subtle update with the addition of “Corsa” lettering on the tailgate. Furthermore, depending on the trim level, customers can opt for a black roof, while new paint options such as Grafik Grey are also available. The Opel logo can be finished in black or matt satin silver, offering customization choices to buyers.
Inside the cabin, the visual changes are relatively minimal. However, the Corsa Electric does offer some notable updates. These include new seat patterns, a redesigned shift lever, and an updated steering wheel design. The highlight, though, is the optional fully digital cockpit, powered by Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms. This new system incorporates an advanced infotainment system with a clear, up to 10-inch touchscreen display, providing improved graphics and a more intuitive layout. With enhanced multimedia capabilities, computer vision, and artificial intelligence, Opel aims to enhance the driving experience for Corsa Electric owners.
The updated Corsa Electric also brings several additional features to the table. Connected services for the navigation system and natural speech recognition with the command “Hey Opel” enable seamless integration and ease of use. Over-the-air (OTA) updates ensure that the vehicle’s software remains up to date, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity come standard for the first time in the Corsa. Additionally, Opel has included a high-resolution panoramic rear-view camera to assist drivers in parking and maneuvering.
Under the hood, the 2024 Opel Corsa Electric benefits from upgrades to its powertrain. It now adopts the latest single-motor setup, which has already been introduced in other Stellantis models like the Opel Mokka Electric and the Peugeot e-2008. The main improvement lies in the larger lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 54 kilowatt-hours. This enhanced battery capacity allows the Corsa Electric to achieve a range of up to 250 miles (402 kilometers) on the WLTP cycle, a significant improvement over its predecessor.
Customers will have a choice between two electric drive options. The first option offers 134 horsepower (100 kilowatts) and a range of 222 miles (357 kilometers), while the second option provides 154 horsepower (115 kilowatts) and the extended range of up to 250 miles (402 kilometers). Both variants offer a generous torque of 192 pound-feet (260 Newton-meters).
When it comes to charging, Opel claims that the Corsa Electric’s battery can be charged from 20 to 80 percent of its total capacity in just 30 minutes, thanks to its fast-charging capabilities.
The facelifted Opel Corsa lineup, including the Corsa Electric, is set to begin deliveries to European customers in the fourth quarter of 2023. With its refreshed design, updated interior technology, and improved powertrain, the 2024 Opel Corsa Electric aims to provide a compelling and eco-friendly option for subcompact hatchback enthusiasts in the European market.
