Tesla’s Model S Gets a Stealth Refresh with High-Visibility Glass Roof and More Features

Tesla has recently unveiled its latest addition to the Model S vehicles: a high-visibility glass roof, which has been introduced alongside a discreet update to the Model S and Model X.

While Tesla’s new hardware 4.0 Autopilot and Self-Driving sensors and computer integration is believed to be the primary reason for the discreet refresh, the automaker has also included a few additional features in the new models.

Tesla’s email to its customers announcing the updates highlighted several changes, including the introduction of a “high-visibility glass roof” to the Model S. This new roof offers improved light transmission while still providing the same level of UV protection and reducing the weight. Tesla also claims that the new roof contributes to improved handling by lowering the center of gravity.

Moreover, Tesla has introduced a new “ultra red” color for both Model S and Model X, in addition to making a round steering wheel available alongside the previous “yoke.”

Despite the many updates, Tesla has not mentioned the new Autopilot hardware in its communication to customers. This omission may be due to the anticipated hardware upgrades’ widespread implementation across Tesla’s other models, including the Model 3 and Model Y.

However, Tesla has emphasized its recent price reductions and the additional features customers receive. The Model S and Model X prices have been significantly reduced, with the former now starting at $90,000.
