A recent recall of brake pedals has caused concern among operators of Nikola Tre trucks, but the truckmaker is assuring customers that their vehicles are safe to drive.

The issue arose from faulty pedal assemblies supplied to Nikola by ZF North America. The supplier discovered that the locking screw that maintains the brake pedal in some assemblies might not be fully threaded or could be missing entirely, potentially causing the brake pedal to fall off and increase the risk of a crash.

After investigating the issue, ZF North America notified Nikola on September 12, prompting the truckmaker to inspect all vehicle cabs in its possession on September 14. No issues were found, and Nikola completed an inspection of all trucks it had sold on November 1. The truckmaker reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that all screws were in place and tightened to spec, and that no recall was necessary because 100 percent of the vehicles that left its factory were safe.

While NHTSA agreed that no further action had to be taken by Nikola, it asked the truckmaker to file a recall notice to document the safety campaign that had been completed before notification was necessary.

Operators can rest assured that their Nikola Tre trucks are safe to drive, including those like Nissan that are using the vehicles for car hauling purposes in Los Angeles. Despite the recent brake pedal recall, Nikola is committed to maintaining the safety of its products and providing quality service to its customers.
