With the increasingly massive development of electrified vehicles, the majority of automotive manufacturers are competing to present their superior electrified vehicles. One of them is Honda, which is very serious in presenting electrified vehicles. Even this Japanese manufacturer says that electrified vehicles such as electric cars are the only way to maintain better carbon neutrality.
Quoted from Carbuzz on Thursday (11/10/2022), Honda CEO, Toshihiro Mibe said that in fact electric cars are basically not the only option to reduce carbon neutrality. However, Mibe said that currently apart from electric cars, the fact is that it is difficult to find a viable alternative in providing carbon neutrality.
Mibe added that the goal in implementing carbon neutrality is more than just presenting environmentally friendly vehicle products. “If you look at the current automotive technology available and the current global situation, it is difficult to find any alternative technology that can provide as good carbon neutrality as an electric car,” said Mibe.
In addition to looking at the environmental impact, Honda sees that good carbon neutrality also depends on production and operational costs that must be kept as low as possible. Honda actually has e-Fuel or Hydrogen technology as an alternative technology for environmentally friendly vehicles. Mibe said that e-Fuel has much higher operational costs than pure electric cars.
Porsche and Hyundai actually also have other technological alternatives such as the development of synthetic fuels. However, Honda said that this technology also has high production costs and is difficult to implement in the general public even though it provides benefits similar to electric cars.
Mibe added that every country has a quite different situation in terms of mobility. He sees that regarding different resources, basically electric cars can be developed flexibly to be able to produce products that are environmentally friendly and have lower production costs.
What was said by Honda seemed to be inversely proportional to their toughest rival, namely Toyota. The manufacturer, which is famous for the âTriple Ellipseâ logo, actually thinks that electric cars are not the only way to provide better carbon neutrality. Toyota even boasts of Hydrogen technology which is considered as good as an electric car.
