After issuing a statement to stop production of the Fiesta in June 2023, Ford chose Puma to replace the role and continue the success of the Fiesta in the era of electrification.
As a farewell to the longest-running brand in its portfolio, the manufacturer released a two-minute video that bids farewell to the Ford Fiesta as well as a look at the new battery-powered Ford Puma.
FYI, the Ford Fiesta has been on sale for 47 years over nine generations. Production currently takes place in Cologne, Germany.
The end of production of the Fiesta will also mark the end of production of internal combustion engine cars at one of Ford’s most important factories outside the United States.
The Cologne plant will be converted into the Cologne Electrification Center, where the new midsize battery-powered crossover will be produced starting next year.
Ford wants to reach 1.2 million electric vehicles produced at the plant in the next six years.
While it’s sad to see one of Ford’s key models leave the automotive market, the automaker believes the future belongs to electric mobility.
Ford of course also wants to “total” on electromobility “at an accelerated rate.”
Therefore, Ford will launch no less than three new pure electric passenger cars and four electric commercial vehicles in Europe by 2024 and one of them is the Ford Puma EV.
