Hyundai Motor Group will create two new electric vehicle platforms by 2025. In addition, the Korean auto giant is developing software for electric cars.
The pair of new electric car platforms are eM and eS, which will be new passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle platforms, respectively. The plan is that the new platform will be introduced in 2025.
With a high level of standardization, the new platform will support all vehicles and reduce the complexity of Hyundai’s production. The platform is also claimed to offer a 50 percent increase in electric car mileage and offers Level 3 autonomous driving technology.
The platform will also feature a connected car operating system (ccOS) developed internally by Hyundai. This operating system will be developed directly by NVIDIA to maximize hardware performance through high computing power and a new data platform.
“Hyundai Motor Group’s data platform is not just for driving alone. It will also play an important role in enhancing the convenience and diversity of customers’ mobility experiences by engaging the entire vehicle life cycle,” said Eunsook Jin, Executive Vice President and Head of ICT Innovation Division at Hyundai Motor Group, quoted as saying today, Thursday, October 13, 2022.
The investment funds will also be used until 2030 to work on a number of projects. One is a project that will allow all Hyundai vehicles to get software updates over-the-air and be able to unlock new features with ease.
Starting in 2023, all new Hyundai vehicles will get an over-the-air software update. This means that consumers can update their car software without having to visit a dealer.
The update feature is claimed not only to be present for electric vehicles, but also all Hyundai vehicle models. Hyundai will also introduce an on-demand service feature starting next year, which will allow customers to register for the feature and pay as needed.
