Tata Motors launches $10,000 small hatchback electric car in India, range up to 250 km

The Indian car manufacturer, Tata Motors, has just released an electric car at an affordable price. Named the Tata Tiago EV, the battery-powered city car is marketed with an introductory price of $10,370 for the lowest variant.

The Tata Tiago EV looks quite identical to its conventional engine version. However, there are some changes to suit the identity it carries. For example, the EV logo, with blue highlights on the grille area, side body, and the wheels.

This car is offered in 7 variants, with 5 variants equipped with a 24 kWh battery and 2 variants equipped with a 19.2 kWh battery. The top variant of the Tiago EV, XZ + Tech Lux is priced at around Rs 11.79 lakh or around IDR 220 million.

Tata will open orders on October 10, 2022, while new deliveries will begin in January 2023. Of the 10,000 units available at an introductory price, 2,000 units are reserved for owners of the Tata Tigor, Tata Nexon EV, and Tata Nexon EV Max.

Regarding performance, the 24 kWh battery pack is claimed to be able to cover a distance of 315 km (MIDC) or about 260 km in real daily use. As for the 19.2 kWh battery pack, the claim is that it can penetrate a distance of 250 km (MIDC), which should translate to 200 km.

There are four different charging options. There is a 15 A charger, a 3.3 kW AC charger, a 7.2 kW AC fast home charger, as well as a DC quick charge charger that can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in just 57 minutes. The 7.2 kW AC home charger takes 3 hours 36 minutes to charge the battery from zero to full.

The Tata Tiago EV gets two driving modes, City and Sport. There are four different regeneration levels that can increase range. The Tata Tiago EV will offer telematics with Z-Connect. There are over 65 features including remote AC on/off, remote geo-fencing, and more.

The manufacturer also offers faux leather seats, automatic climate control, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlights, electrically adjustable ORVM, cruise control. Tata also offers as many as 8 speakers for the top-end variant.
