There are 370 companies that placed orders for the Chevy Silverado EV in the WT trim level. In total there are 85,000 orders for fleet operator needs, Automotive News reports.
Ed Pepper, vice president of GM Fleet, said interest in electric pickup trucks was “very high,” among fleet operators. One of the reasons why fleet operators are eyeing it is the potential savings offered by electric vehicles in terms of operating costs.
âThere will be less moving parts with EVs. And if there are less parts, that means serviceability is going to be even better for our fleet customers,â said Ed Pepper.
According to Ed Pepper, the fleet sales team at GM acts as a sort of consulting firm for electric vehicles, answering customer questions about any concerns that may arise. In certain cases lead customers to choose the Chevy Silverado EV over the internal combustion engine version.
In April, GM received a total of 140,000 reservations for the Chevy Silverado EV, both the RST First Edition model, as well as the WT fleet model.
Production of the Chevy Silverado EV, will begin early next year at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.
The Chevy Silverado EV powertrain is a dual-motor e4WD, with the WT making 510 hp and 615 pound-feet of torque, and the RST trim has 664 horsepower and 780 lb-ft of torque. The Chevy Silverado EV offers 400 miles of range on a single full charge.
