BYD’s Fang Cheng Bao brand has reached 600,000 cumulative vehicle sales as it expands its product portfolio beyond off-road SUVs and prepares to increase deliveries of its newly introduced sedan models.
The brand announced the milestone on Weibo on Sunday but did not provide October sales figures or a breakdown by model. BYD is expected to publish its latest monthly sales data later in the day.
The Tai 7 has become a major contributor to the brand’s growth, reaching 300,000 cumulative sales in October, according to Fang Cheng Bao general manager Xiong Tianbo in a Weibo post on October 31.
Formula S Deliveries Face Production Challenges
Fang Cheng Bao is expanding into additional vehicle segments, with its current portfolio covering urban family SUVs, electric sedans and shooting brake models.
However, deliveries of its recently launched Formula series have not yet reached the company’s expectations.
Xiong said the team’s primary focus in October was increasing deliveries of the Formula S series, but the monthly result remained below expectations.
Volume deliveries of the Formula S sedan progressed steadily in early October, while deliveries of the Formula S GT shooting brake began in the middle of the month.
The company plans to increase production and accelerate deliveries in November to reduce customer waiting times, Xiong said. She did not disclose the October delivery total or the original sales target.
The Formula S and Formula S GT were launched on September 16, with starting prices of 189,900 yuan ($28,290) and 219,900 yuan, respectively.
The two models represent Fang Cheng Bao’s entry into the electric sedan market, broadening its business beyond the SUV segment that has supported the brand’s initial growth.
Tai 9 Prepares for November Launch
Fang Cheng Bao is also preparing to expand its family-oriented SUV range with the Tai 9.
Display vehicles began shipping to dealerships across China this week ahead of the model’s official launch in November, Xiong said.
The six-seat Tai 9 will become the third vehicle in the Tai series, joining the Tai 3 and Tai 7. Xiong previously indicated on October 22 that the new SUV was scheduled to launch after November 15.
The model’s introduction will further strengthen the brand’s presence in the family SUV market as it targets a wider customer base.
Shark Pickup Adds Another Segment
Fang Cheng Bao is also preparing to introduce its Shark pickup in China, with a launch planned for late November or early December.
According to the timeline previously outlined by Xiong, customer deliveries are expected to begin around the same time as the launch.
The upcoming models reflect BYD’s strategy of expanding Fang Cheng Bao beyond its original focus on rugged off-road vehicles. The brand’s ability to increase production and manage deliveries across its growing portfolio will be important as it seeks to sustain sales momentum.
