Vietnamese transportation company Huy Long has signed an agreement to purchase 2,000 electric vehicles from domestic automaker VinFast, marking one of the latest large-scale fleet electrification initiatives in the country.
The vehicles will be deployed in phases across Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and several provinces in central Vietnam as part of Huy Long’s strategy to modernize its transportation operations and reduce reliance on internal combustion engine vehicles.
Green SM to Support Fleet Operations
To support the rollout, Huy Long has partnered with Green SM, the electric mobility platform backed by Vingroup.
Under the agreement, Green SM will provide technology platform integration, fleet management solutions and operational support aimed at maximizing vehicle utilization and efficiency.
The company will also assist with programs designed to encourage drivers to transition from gasoline-powered vehicles to electric alternatives, although specific details of these initiatives have not yet been disclosed.
Green SM said it is currently collaborating with nearly 100 transportation companies and multiple bus operators across Vietnam to accelerate EV adoption.
Five VinFast Models Included
The order covers five different VinFast electric vehicle models designed for a variety of passenger and commercial transportation applications.
The fleet will include the VF 5 Plus compact SUV, the EC Van commercial vehicle, the Minio Green microcar, the Herio Green compact electric vehicle and the Limo Green electric MPV.
The VF 5 Plus features a 100 kW electric motor producing 135 Nm of torque and is powered by a 37.23 kWh battery pack. The model offers a driving range of 326.4 kilometers under the NEDC test cycle.
The EC Van is designed for commercial applications and features a two-seat cabin with 2.6 cubic meters of cargo capacity. It is equipped with a 30 kW rear-mounted electric motor, an 18.3 kWh battery pack and an NEDC range of 175 kilometers.
Vehicles for Multiple Use Cases
The Minio Green microcar accommodates four passengers and utilizes the same 18.3 kWh battery pack as the EC Van. Its 30 kW electric motor delivers a range of up to 210 kilometers under NEDC standards.
The Herio Green is based on the VF 5 Plus platform and shares its powertrain, battery specifications and driving range.
The largest model in the fleet, the Limo Green, is a seven-seat electric MPV powered by a 150 kW motor generating 280 Nm of torque. It uses a 60.13 kWh battery pack and offers a range of up to 450 kilometers on a full charge.
Supporting Transportation Electrification
Huy Long Director Dinh Thi Thu Thuy said the investment reflects the company’s commitment to adapting to long-term industry trends.
“Investing in a large-scale electric vehicle fleet will not only help improve operational efficiency but also create a foundation for the business to adapt to the inevitable development trend of the transportation industry.”
Tran Le Phuong, Deputy General Director of GSM Global, said Green SM aims to support transportation operators through an integrated ecosystem combining vehicles, technology and operational services.
“Green SM aims to become a platform that promotes this transformation by connecting technology, electric vehicles, and the operating ecosystem, thereby supporting partners to expand their operations more effectively in the long term.”
The agreement highlights the growing momentum behind electric transportation in Vietnam as businesses increasingly adopt EVs to improve efficiency, reduce emissions and support the country’s broader transition toward sustainable mobility.
