An Post said it has reduced carbon emissions by 50% compared with 2009 levels, reaching its emissions target three months ahead of schedule as electric vehicles now account for more than half of its delivery fleet.
The company said the milestone was achieved in September 2025 but disclosed the results in its newly released 2025 Sustainability Report.
According to the report, An Post deployed 575 new electric vans during the first half of this year. Around 30% of the additions replaced diesel-powered vehicles, while the remainder replaced earlier-generation electric vans with lower battery range.
The postal operator said its delivery fleet transition currently focuses entirely on battery-electric vans. Its heavy goods vehicle fleet still operates using fuel-powered drivetrains, although the company noted that 95% of its trucks switched from diesel to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) during the fourth quarter of 2025.
Alongside fleet electrification, An Post stated that 99% of its buildings now operate using green electricity.
David McRedmond, chief executive officer of An Post, said sustainability efforts remain an ongoing priority for the company.
“The battle for sustainability never ends, and the need is as great as ever,” McRedmond said.
Owen Keogh, Head of Sustainability at An Post, said the latest report showed environmental initiatives and business performance could advance together.
“With 575 new, larger EVs being deployed in the first half of this year and a tighter focus on green energy optimisation and support for circular economy initiatives, we continue to make great strides towards our Green Light Energy Goals,” Keogh said.
An Post is among a growing number of European postal and logistics operators expanding electric vehicle fleets as governments and companies seek to reduce transport-related emissions.
