Cupra has unveiled an updated version of its electric SUV, the Cupra Tavascan, introducing a new entry-level variant alongside interior and technology upgrades as part of the broader refresh of Volkswagen Group’s MEB-based models.
The updated Tavascan follows recent revisions to models such as the Cupra Born, Skoda Enyaq and Skoda Elroq. However, design changes to the Tavascan remain minimal, reflecting the model’s relatively recent launch in 2024.
The key update is the introduction of a new base drivetrain, featuring a 140 kW electric motor paired with a 58 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. This marks the first time such a configuration has been offered in the Tavascan lineup. The variant is expected to deliver a range of around 435 kilometres, with charging from 10% to 80% taking approximately 26 minutes at up to 105 kW.
The new powertrain uses Volkswagen Group’s updated APP350 motor, replacing earlier units used across the MEB platform. It delivers up to 350 Nm of torque, aimed at maintaining the model’s performance characteristics while lowering entry costs.
Higher-end variants remain unchanged, with the Endurance version continuing to offer 210 kW rear-wheel drive and the VZ variant delivering 250 kW with all-wheel drive, both paired with a 77 kWh battery.
Inside, the updated Tavascan features a larger 10.25-inch digital cockpit and a redesigned steering wheel with physical buttons replacing touch-sensitive controls. The infotainment system now runs on an Android-based platform, aligning with updates seen across other MEB models.
Cupra has also introduced enhanced climate control functionality, which preconditions the cabin based on proximity of the key and adjusts airflow dynamically. Additional features include a Mobile Device Key for smartphone-based access, the ability to share digital keys with multiple users, and convenience functions such as automatic locking and unlocking.
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability has also been added, allowing external devices to be powered via the charging port.
Externally, updates are limited, with the addition of a new paint option called “Dark Void,” described by the company as enhancing the model’s visual presence.
Production will continue at Volkswagen Group’s plant in Anting, with customer deliveries expected after the summer. Pricing has not yet been confirmed, though the addition of the new base variant is expected to lower the entry point below current levels.
