Electric vehicle maker Rivian has unveiled full specifications and pricing for its upcoming Rivian R2, confirming details that surfaced in an earlier leak and outlining a lineup designed to broaden the brand’s reach in the U.S. electric vehicle market.
The first model to launch will be the R2 Performance with Launch Package, starting at $57,990, with U.S. deliveries expected in spring 2026. The company also confirmed that deliveries in Canada are scheduled to begin in 2027.

The R2 is built on an all-new mid-size platform intended to make Rivian’s electric vehicles more accessible while preserving the off-road capability and adventure-focused identity established by the company’s larger Rivian R1S and Rivian R1T models.
The launch version features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain producing 656 horsepower and 609 lb-ft of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds. Rivian said the vehicle can also accelerate from 50 to 70 mph in as little as 1.55 seconds during highway driving.

Power comes from an 88 kWh battery pack delivering an estimated 330 miles (531 km) of range, while DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in approximately 29 minutes.
The R2 Performance includes features such as matrix LED headlights, semi-active suspension, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel, along with 12-way power seats for both the driver and front passenger. Other elements include Rivian’s Torch flashlight integrated into the driver’s door, integrated tow hooks, and a rear drop glass window built into the tailgate.

Drivers will also have access to multiple driving modes including All-Purpose, Conserve, Snow, All-Terrain, Rally, Soft Sand, Sport, and Launch Mode.
The Launch Package adds features such as a lifetime subscription to Rivian’s Autonomy+ driver assistance system, a tow package, and an exclusive Launch Green exterior colour, along with a Rivian Green anodized key fob.
The R2 measures 186 inches in length, roughly 15 inches shorter than the R1S, and offers 9.6 inches of ground clearance. The SUV can tow up to 4,400 pounds (1,996 kg) and will include a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port, allowing access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.

Rivian also outlined additional versions of the R2 that will follow the launch model. The R2 Premium, starting at $53,990, is scheduled to arrive later in 2026 with the same 88 kWh battery and 330-mile range, but with 450 horsepower and fewer performance-focused features.
A rear-wheel-drive Standard trim is planned for 2027, starting at $48,490. This version will use a single motor producing 350 horsepower and 355 lb-ft of torque, offering the longest range in the lineup at 345 miles (555 km).
To reach the lower price point, the Standard version will feature a simplified interior with an all-black Black Crater design, a five-speaker 525-watt audio system, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.

Rivian also confirmed plans for an entry-level R2 variant priced at around $45,000, expected to arrive in late 2027 with an estimated 275-mile (442 km) range, although detailed specifications for that model have not yet been released.
Inside, the R2 offers 90.1 cubic feet of total enclosed storage, including a 5.2 cubic-foot front trunk, dual glove boxes, and fold-flat rear seats that create a flat cargo area for transporting large gear such as bicycles or camping equipment.
The vehicle introduces a new software-defined vehicle architecture with a sensor suite consisting of 11 HDR cameras totaling 65 megapixels and five radar sensors. The platform also includes 200 TOPS of onboard AI computing power, enabling Rivian’s upcoming voice assistant to operate locally without requiring a constant internet connection.

The R2’s interior features dual digital displays and a redesigned steering wheel with haptic “halo” control wheels capable of scrolling, pushing, pulling and tilting to control vehicle functions.
Rivian’s announcement largely confirmed the accuracy of information that had briefly appeared online in a prematurely published article, including the $57,990 launch price, 656-horsepower performance model, and 330-mile range. The official reveal added additional details about the Launch Package and several technical features.
