Kia has confirmed that its new EV5 electric SUV, a mid-size vehicle comparable to the Sportage, will launch in Canada in early 2026 but will not be sold in the United States. The model has already been introduced in Europe and South Korea.
The EV5 is designed for families, offering a spacious interior, advanced connectivity, and a WLTP range of up to 329 miles. Fast-charging capabilities allow the battery to recharge from 10% to 80% in roughly 30 minutes. The SUV also incorporates driver-assistance features, including highway assist and remote smart parking, as well as a cabin climate control function for pets.

Built on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform, the EV5 features Kia’s new digital tiger face design with Star Map daytime running lights. The vehicle measures 4,610 mm in length, 1,875 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a 2,750 mm wheelbase that provides substantial rear-seat legroom. Its interior includes nearly 30 inches of combined display space across dual 12.3-inch instrument cluster and infotainment screens, along with a separate 5-inch climate control display.
The decision to bypass the U.S. market is influenced by recent policy changes, including a 15% tariff on auto imports from South Korea, making competitive pricing more challenging. Kia already produces the EV6 and EV9 at its West Point, Georgia plant and will launch the EV4 in the U.S. in early 2026.

Pricing for the EV5 in Canada has not yet been confirmed. In South Korea, the vehicle starts at 48.55 million won ($35,000), while in the UK it begins at £39,295 ($53,000) on-the-road. With local subsidies, Kia expects the EV5 to be available for around 40 million won ($28,800) in its home market.
