French automotive supplier Valeo and battery life-cycle specialist VoltR have announced a strategic partnership to develop and industrialise a joint solution for repairing and reusing batteries used in small electric vehicles across Europe. The collaboration aims to extend battery lifespans, reduce material waste, and support a more sustainable circular economy for the fast-growing micromobility sector.
The two companies will combine Valeo’s expertise in electronic battery repair with VoltR’s experience in reconditioning and cell pack manufacturing. Together, they aim to deliver what they describe as “material savings of at least 95 percent” compared to producing new batteries. Their offering will target fleet operators, vehicle manufacturers, battery producers, and repair networks, providing localised warranties and after-sales support for refurbished energy packs.
“By combining the strengths of Valeo and VoltR, we provide a concrete response to the three essential challenges of environmentally-friendly battery management, more economical mobility for all, and a reliable source for access to repair components,” said Isabelle d’Ambrosio-Pierre, Valeo’s Vice President for Service OES & Smart Mobility. “This battery repair solution is not only innovative but also essential for the development of less carbon-intensive urban mobility.”
The process begins by assessing whether used batteries can be repaired; when replacement is required, VoltR supplies reconditioned energy packs with compatible cell references to maintain original certifications and performance levels. The companies said this approach ensures the reuse of critical raw materials and supports sustainability goals amid Europe’s surge in electric bicycles, scooters, and other lightweight electric vehicles.
“At VoltR, our mission is to minimise the environmental impact of batteries by maximising their lifespan through battery remanufacturing,” said Maxime Bleskine, General Manager of VoltR. “Partnering with a technology leader like Valeo allows us to industrialise our approach and scale our offering across Europe. Together, we will create a unique value proposition that combines technical performance and environmental commitment for our customers.”
Valeo is already active across several areas of electric mobility, including collaborations with PanGood on axial flux generator technology, Rohm on silicon carbide modules for electric drives, and Mahle on electric motor development. The new partnership with VoltR marks its latest move to strengthen sustainable battery management and reduce the carbon footprint of urban transport.
