Innoviz Technologies said it has been selected by a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer to supply its InnovizTwo LiDAR platform for a future series production of SAE Level 4 autonomous trucks.
The agreement positions Innoviz as a core supplier for the truckmaker’s autonomous program, which will focus on class-8 semi-trucks designed for deployment across North American routes. Initial units of the InnovizTwo sensor will be delivered this year to support the automaker’s data collection fleet, the company said.
In addition to supplying hardware, Innoviz will develop tailored software modifications to ensure integration of its LiDAR system with the truckmaker’s autonomous driving architecture. The company said the technology is intended to support operations on highways and regional roads, with expected benefits for fleet operators including lower costs, improved uptime, and enhanced safety.
“Winning a Level 4 program with a major truck manufacturer is a milestone that demonstrates our capability to expand across different sectors of the automotive industry,” said Omer Keilaf, CEO and co-founder of Innoviz Technologies. “These commercial trucks demand LiDAR systems that can withstand extreme conditions while maintaining the highest levels of performance.”
The move strengthens Innoviz’s position in the autonomous driving market and follows a separate program earlier this year in which the company was awarded an SAE Level 3 project with a top-five passenger vehicle maker. Innoviz said its LiDAR sensors are designed to deliver high resolution, blockage resiliency, and reliability to enable autonomy at scale for both passenger and commercial vehicles.
