BYD reported sales of 344,296 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in July, marking a modest 0.56% increase from a year earlier while declining 10.01% compared with June, according to data released today.
The July figures reflect a continued shift in the company’s product mix, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) outpacing plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) for the fourth consecutive month. BYD sold 177,887 passenger BEVs during the month, up 36.84% year-on-year but down 14.02% from June. Meanwhile, passenger PHEV sales dropped 22.61% year-on-year to 163,143 units, marking a 4.45% decline from the previous month.

This trend underscores a broader transition for the automaker, which halted production of traditional internal combustion engine vehicles in March 2022 to focus exclusively on NEVs. Of the total NEVs sold in July, 341,030 were passenger vehicles, a marginal 0.07% increase from the same period last year.
Commercial NEV sales reached 3,266 units in July, more than doubling year-on-year with a 106.19% rise, though falling 34.11% from June. Overseas NEV deliveries stood at 80,737 units, up 169.00% from July 2024, but down 10.34% month-on-month.

In the battery segment, BYD reported installations of approximately 22.350 GWh in July across its power and energy storage battery operations, reflecting a 35.30% increase from the previous year but a 17.28% decline compared to June. BYD remains China’s largest NEV manufacturer and its second-largest power battery producer.
