Europcar Switzerland has become the first major car rental provider to offer the compact electric Microlino to customers, targeting urban travelers in Zurich and Bern with an all-inclusive daily rental plan.
The Swiss-designed two-seater electric vehicle (EV), known for its retro-inspired style and small footprint, is being offered at a daily rate of CHF 39.90 (€42.80), which includes electricity and unlimited mileage. The initiative is intended to provide a sustainable, low-cost transportation option suited to short trips and narrow city streets.
“With the Microlino, we’re offering our customers in urban areas a new, attractive and sustainable mobility option,” said Hendrik Lütjens, Managing Director of Europcar Switzerland.
While the Microlino has previously been available through other rental and subscription models—such as Astara’s car-sharing service in Madrid—this marks one of the first instances where a major European rental firm is integrating the EV into its core vehicle portal. Customers will be able to book the Microlino just as they would any other rental car through Europcar.
The light electric vehicle offers a maximum range of 177 kilometers, a top speed of 90 km/h, and a boot capacity of 230 liters. Though designed primarily for urban use, it is road-legal for all roads, including highways.
Microlino, which is partnering with Europcar on the initiative, described the collaboration as “the perfect way to discover a new kind of urban driving – hassle-free, commitment-free, and full of fun.” Additionally, Microlino owners are eligible for a 15% discount on Europcar rentals worldwide, according to the company’s website.
