BYD has officially added the BYD Zhengzhou to its growing fleet of car carriers, marking the seventh such vessel as the company strengthens its global new energy vehicle (NEV) export logistics.
The BYD Zhengzhou, capable of carrying up to 7,000 vehicles, completed its sea trials in late June before being delivered. The ship is named after Zhengzhou, Henan province — a key production hub for the automaker — and was built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited.
It shares the same specifications as its sister ship, the BYD Hefei, measuring 199.9 meters in length and 38 meters in beam. The vessel features a dual-fuel propulsion system powered by LNG, aligning with BYD’s clean energy strategy.
The automaker’s car carrier fleet now includes the BYD Explorer No. 1, BYD Hefei, BYD Changzhou, BYD Shenzhen, BYD Xi’an, BYD Changsha, and now the BYD Zhengzhou. Except for the Explorer No. 1, all are named after cities that host BYD production facilities.
According to the company, its fleet has already transported more than 70,000 NEVs to global markets as of June 24. The addition of the Zhengzhou is expected to further support BYD’s aggressive international expansion as demand for vehicle transport vessels grows alongside China’s surging automotive exports.
