Kia has recently disclosed the pricing details for its upcoming 2025 EV5 in China, positioning it as a formidable contender against the Tesla Model Y. Launched last Friday, the entry-level EV5 model, dubbed the 530 series, comes in three grades: the 530 Light, the 530 Air, and the 530 Land. Remarkably, the base model starts at a competitive 149,800 yuan (~$20,900), nearly half the price of the Tesla Model Y’s base RWD model, which begins at 266,400 yuan (~$37,000).
The entry-level EV5 is equipped with BYDās LFP Blade battery boasting a 64.2 kWh capacity, a 160 kW (215 hp) and 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) electric motor, and an impressive 329 miles (530 km) of range based on the Chinese test cycle. While distinctions among the Light, Air, and Land models are not explicitly detailed, it appears they share the same powertrain.
For consumers seeking enhanced power and range, Kia offers an 88 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery variant, providing an extended 447 miles (720 km) of range with the same 160 kW (215 hp) motor. Furthermore, there are indications that Kia will introduce a dual-motor powertrain option, combining a 160 kW (215 hp) front electric motor with a 70 kW (94 hp) rear motor, paired with the 88 kWh battery. Pricing details for these variants are yet to be announced.
Measuring 4,615 mm (181.7 inches) in length with a 2,750 mm (108.3-inch) wheelbase, the EV5 draws design inspiration from the larger EV9, placing it in a similar category as the Kia Sportage. The cabin design mirrors the EV9, showcasing a new digital dashboard integrating a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 5-inch climate control panel, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. The EV5 is slated for release in various global markets, although confirmation for the U.S. market is pending.
